LAURA FRANCO CARRIÓN |
“I’d like everyone, whoever they are, to experience my work freely, without being told what to think or feel”
I think there’s always an autobiographical content in my work – like a sort of journal – which could be a common link. They relate directly to my life, made in most cases to express particular times or feelings.
I’m influenced by many different things - not just other visual artists - books that I read, movies or documentaries that I see, places I visit. I also really like fiction in art – to recreate an invented reality through artistic work entertains and inspires me.
I don’t have a favourite medium, I like to choose depending on what it is I want to say. I really like writing, the act of writing. I have a strong connection with text, words, letters. My latest work has focused on exploring the precariousness of the artist’s life- the day to day, the fragility as a creator in a closed and hierarchical system, the longings and frustrations.

The truth is that I never know if I’ve achieved what I wanted. Maybe I care more about just starting the process than the final result - for me the most important thing is the process. My dream project? Maybe to write a book and illustrate it or include images that I could make while writing – a project that also allows me to travel to many places and meet interesting people.
I got to know Cútar through my friend Antonio Navarro. I had the opportunity to exhibit in Galeria Cutarte some years ago with fellow artists and friends which Antonio curated. For me this exhibition was important because it was the first I did after a one-year scholarship in Córdoba and was the beginning of a new stage for me in Málaga.
